Individually rare, collectively common. A single rare disease may affect just one person among thousands, but combined, all rare diseases have a gigantic impact - affecting an estimated 30 million Americans.
Kelly East, MS, CGC, presented the following webinar on Rare Disease: What Role Do Genetics Play? as part of the National Society of Genetic Counselors consumer webinar series. This webinar explores rare disease, the journey patients take when looking for an explanation for their rare disease symptoms and the role genetic counselors play along the way. Since most rare diseases are caused by changes in a person’s genetic makeup, genetic counseling and testing are often a big part of this journey. Resources for individuals impacted by rare disease living with or without a diagnosis are included throughout the presentation.
